I know, it’s very late, sorry. I’m ill (blood), but I promised to inform you about all updates about Apple’s operating systems, so here is another little update from me. Now Apple updated iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and also released supplemental update for macOS Catalina. All updates, except supplemental update for macOS Catalina, are mostly about FaceTime bugs with older devices. Before update, backup all your important data on at least two safe locations, like external disk, NAS or reliable cloud service.
Let’s start with iOS. Issue was, that you couldn’t make FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier. It also fixes a bug in the settings app that could cause choosing Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen to fail. Bug with FaceTime appeared after iOS 13.4 and macOS 10.15.4, so Apple fixed it. iPadOS 13.4 got the same issues, but as “bonus”, new bug appeared that could cause the flashlight not to turn on on the new 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models after the Flashlight button in Control Center or the Lock screen is tapped. It’s now fixed.
Full release notes:
iOS 13.4.1 includes bug fixes for your iPhone:
- Fixes an issue where devices running iOS 13.4 could not participate in FaceTime calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier
- Addresses a bug with the Settings app where choosing a Bluetooth from the quick actions menu on the Home screen would fail
Update is available over-the-air on all devices supporting iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.
Now watchOS. According to Apple’s release notes, watchOS 6.2.1 fixes the FaceTime bug that prevented Apple Watches running watchOS 6.2 from participating in FaceTime audio calls with devices running iOS 9.3.6 and earlier or OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and earlier.
watchOS can be updated via dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General -> Software Update. You need to have at least 50% of battery, your Apple Watch must be placed on a charger and in the range of the iPhone.
Apple also released Supplemental Update for macOS Catalina. Just one warning – though it’s supposed to be installed fast, it will install pretty long, so make sure you have enough time.
