New 16-inch hi-end MacBook Pro is here

16-inch MacBook ProApple today revealed its long-rumored 16-inch hi-end MacBook Pro and it also replaced older models with 15.4-inch display. Display is larger, but thanks to slimmer bezels, the size of new MacBook Pro is almost the same. It features 3072 x 1920 pixels of resolution and up to 500 nits of brightness, which is useful in terrain or outdoor work, and display also got P3 wide color gamut support. If you are asking, yes, butterfly keyboard was replaced with scissor mechanism and Apple called this new keyboard “Magic Keyboard”. Apple also decided to add dedicated physical ESC key, which was highly requested by users owning Touch Bar equiped MacBooks Pro.

Performance is also interesting. New MacBook Pro features 9th-generation CPUs with up to 8 cores, up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 8 TB of SSD storage. As for, graphics card (GPU), it features AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory in base model, upgradable to AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory or even to AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. This is for the first time, when Apple laptop included built-in GPU with 8 GB of VRAM. Of course, it’s also expandable with eGPU thanks to USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 port.

New MacBook Pro also features 100 Wh battery with up to 11 hour of battery life between charges, redesigned six-speaker sound system and upgraded microphones. Apple redesigned thermal architecture, featuring larger impellers with improved fan blades for optimal airflow and more heat-dispersing fins for more effective cooling. The resulting gain in cooling capacity allows MacBook Pro to deliver up to 12 watts more maximum sustained power. Apple also said, that AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory offers up to 80% faster performance when executing tasks like color grading in DaVinci Resolve compared with the Radeon Pro Vega 20 and it’s up to 2.1 times faster than AMD Radeon Pro 560X, so new cooling system is very important for such powerful thin laptop. T2 chip is also included.

16-inch MacBook Pro supports up to two 6K external monitors.

And price?

Base model starts at 2399 USD and its brother with i9 CPU, faster GPU and larger SSD disk starts at 2799 USD. Maxed-out configuration costs 6099 USD.
