ITT launched in St. Petersburg third-generation mobile network

The company Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) announced the launch in St. Petersburg cellular network of third generation (3G).

St. Petersburg became the first Russian city where the operator MTS services offered to 3G. The company MTS noted that the development of third generation mobile networks will significantly improve the quality of existing services to exchange data by increasing bandwidth channels. Subscribers, in particular, will be able to enjoy such services as videotelephony and high-speed Internet access. Until the end of 2008 will be expanded range of services through mobile TV, 3G-roaming, etc. For 3G services MTS plans to introduce a line of new tariff plans for different categories of users.

Simultaneously with the launch of third generation network in St. Petersburg company, Mobile TeleSystems reported technical readiness to launch commercial service in 3G services in Kazan, Sochi and Ekaterinburg. ITT Technical partner for the construction of 3G networks has become a company Ericsson. Until the end of this year, ITT plans to launch third-generation network in order further ten cities in the country. The investments by ITT to the development of third generation services in Russia in the years 2008-2011 will amount to 38 billion rubles.

Other Russian cellular operators are expected to start 3G-network in all regions of our country before the end of 2009.
