The tropical insects facing extinction

If there are many kinds of tropical insects will not be able to adapt to global warming, by the end of this century they face extinction, at this conclusion came from the University of Washington scientists. The researchers studied the impact of changes in temperature from 1950 - till the year 2000 by 38 species of insects.

Tropical insects much more sensitive to temperature changes. In turn, we can expect a sharp increase in insect populations in higher latitude. This imbalance could affect the pollination of flowers, as well as food resources.

Cold-organisms unable to regulate its body temperature, as do warm-blooded animals when moulting or otraschivanii wool cover. They can only hide in the shadows under strong sun or get back with cooling. When it warms to 5.4 degrees Celsius, which is expected in the tropics by the year 2100, this species to be a fight for survival.

Joshua Tyuksberi from Washington University notes that as soon as the temperature in the tropics exceed the thermal optimum such organisms, that is the temperature at which they could grow, the level of fitness organisms to the surrounding conditions are likely to fall rapidly. The likelihood that some species can evolve or migrate to other latitudes, there, but other kinds of insects at risk of completely vymeret.
