The European Commission approved the merger transaction for Oracle and BEA Systems
The company Oracle reported that the European Commission approved a deal to buy a competing software developer BEA Systems.
Oracle and BEA Systems were negotiating to merge with last year. Oracle initially proposed for BEA Systems amounting to 6.7 billion dollars, but the Board of Directors of BEA Systems found that figure insufficient and refused. The company Oracle was forced to cancel its offer, but then resumed negotiations competitors. As a result, in January this year, the parties agreed on the amount of 8.5 billion dollars.
As now reported the transaction to combine Oracle and BEA Systems completed. Oracle plans to use the connecting software BEA Systems to further develop its service-oriented architecture and increasing the range of services provided to customers.
Meanwhile, as the Associated Press, a company Oracle does not exclude the probability of reducing staff BEA Systems. BEA Systems now has a staff of approximately 4100 people, but how many of them may lose work, yet did not specify.
Over the past three years, Oracle has spent some 35 billion dollars to buy rival software developers. One of the largest acquisitions was the purchase firm PeopleSoft, which Oracle in 2005 paid 11.1 billion dollars. In addition, Oracle moved to the assets of companies Siebel Systems and Hyperion Solutions. After the merger with BEA Systems main competitor Oracle remains the German company SAP.
