Google improves search images
Google is in the international World Wide Web Conference in Beijing released information about new technology, which theoretically will be able to significantly improve the accuracy of the search for graphic images and photos.
According to the New York Times, the presentation of the new system, researchers conducted a Google search Shumit Baluya and Yuyshi Ching. Experts explain that modern means of searching for images based on an analysis accompanying text and keywords, added to the drawings or photographs. However, this approach does not always provide the desired results relevancy.
The new mechanism, developed by specialists of Google, was named VisualRank. It combines software tools to recognize images from analogue index PageRank, which Google search engine is used to assess how a given site on the Internet corresponds to a user request.
Researchers tested the system at two VisualRank thousands of the most popular queries on products such as iPod, Xbox and Zune. It turned out that the new mechanism allows for the query to receive a much more relevant images, rather than service Google Image Search.
However, recognition and comparison of a huge number of graphic images requires huge computing power. About that, whether Google VisualRank mechanism to apply in practice, yet nothing is reported.
